Minescape
After a war or conflict, nature does its part to regenerate and conceal the craters, mass graves and trenches created by man. Landmines left behind allow nature to reclaim that which is hers. The landscapes photographed here depict the unknown terror that lies beneath the surface that we cannot readily see. These landscapes are minefields … or are they?

Brett Van Ort was born in Washington D.C. Raised in Texas, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film. He soon found still photography to be a faster, more efficient, creative outlet that allowed him to pursue and tell stories he feels passionate about. Spending his summers on the farm where his mother grew up instilled a great respect for nature in him from a young age. He has always been interested in land, the outdoors and how we use the environment to both our benefit and detriment. His personal projects focus on the landscape, and our conscious and unconscious interpretations of it.
