Valentina Schivardi

Ewen House
‘As a child I used to dream about waking up in an abandoned place where I would have free access to everyone’s house’ This project is about my encounters with my neighbours. The idea came from my desire to meet them and to discover how they live. The camera gave me the licence to establish this intimacy. My obsession has always been to find a point of entry into another person’s life.

Valentina Schivardi grew up in a small Italian village. Studying art was for her a way to reach out to the wider world. After graduating from the Bauer School of Photography, she moved to New York where she became a teaching assistant at the International Center of Photography. Upon returning to Italy, she headed the Photography Department at Falcone Design School and studied cinema at DAMS University of Literature and Philosophy. During this time she developed her personal projects and worked for a variety of professional commissions, including Grazia Neri Photo Press Agency. She lives and works in London.
