Julian Lass

The memories my mother Monika include those of her childhood and teenage years on the Baltic Sea coast, north Germany, so I traveled to those places she still remembers. Back at her home in the UK, I showed her the photos I had taken and asked her to talk about her memories.
Julian Lass is a freelance photographer and writer born in Britain in 1975 to German parents. He received an MA in English Literature with First Class Honours from Edinburgh University in 1998 and an FdA in Photography from the Arts Institute, Bournemouth in 2004. He has lived extensively in Germany and Spain and speaks both languages. Publications include The Times for his pictures and The British Journal of Photography for his articles. Exhibitions include the group shows Thirteen and Absorb Arts. He was a finalist in the AOP Open in 2004 and recently took part in a workshop with the Japanese photographer Rinko Kawauchi.
