Marcia Chandra

Permanently temporary (passing time in a plastic sea)
This project explores the dynamics and contradictions in the lives of African immigrants living and working in the landscape of plastic greenhouses in Almeria, Spain. While looking for opportunities to help them achieve the dreams that led them to Europe, social, economic and legal barriers often force them to depend on the greenhouse industry for longer than they expect. Although they continue to believe in moving on, their lives slowly become more rooted as time passes.

Marcia Chandra has spent a great deal of her life doing research and projects on urban poverty, political ecology, and migration and identity. As a documentary photographer, she focuses on using visual communication as a tool to inspire people to want to know more. Marcia is a Canadian currently based in London.
