Nelly Akhmetova
Lasnamäe 09
I’m currently working on a long term project about post-soviet Estonia and the district of Lasnamäe. Lasnamäe is the largest Russian-speaking district of Tallinn with a population of approximately 114,262 people. This is a place where we strongly and clearly see the evolution of a people and its adaptation to a new history.
Nelly Ahmetova was born in Estonia. She received a BA in Photojournalism from Moscow State University in 2007. She since moved to London and is presently working as a freelance photographer. In Moscow she mostly concentrated on social
justice issues and the topic of her diploma was ‘Problems in contemporary social photography’. During her BA, she worked for newspapers and at the State News
Agency for Russia. She has always been interested in arts and from a very young age has participated in exhibitions. Her works have been exhibited in her own town as well as in the Moscow Museum of Modern Art.
