In keeping with the very best documentary work, much of the work on show by the photographers from this year's course is the result of a deep engagement and involvement with their subject matter. Their work is diverse in theme, style and medium, exploring the human condition with intelligence and wit in both traditional and unconventional ways. The more conceptual work is smart, refreshingly unpretentious and immediately accessible.

A year on, 28 strangers have become 28 friends. They are a very impressive group of modern, adaptable communicators who work with creativity and professionalism, both as individuals and collectively and they have made my job exciting and rewarding. I'm sad to see them move on but enormously proud to invite you to enjoy their '28 stories'.

John Easterby, head of the course.
